Rainy days on the Scilly Isles
Thankfully there aren’t too many rainy days on the Isles of Scilly, but if it is a bit wet outside then here are a few ideas for getting out and about:
Swimming and Wellbeing centre
There is an indoor swimming pool on the island, the Normandy Pool, which is open all year round. There are special sessions including Aqua-fit and Water Babies. There is also a Gym and Fitness Suite. You can find out more details and see the timetable on the Active Scilly website.
The Isles of Scilly Museum on St Mary’s has a fantastic collection of exhibits which look at the social, maritime and natural history of the islands. From Bronze Age artefacts through to a fully rigged pilot gig from 1877 – there’s plenty to keep you occupied.
Craft and cooking
There are often special classes running – such as art workshops or baking lessons – which vary on a week-to-week basis. The Phoenix Craft Workshops have a range of studios and often run events.
Hire a buggy; embrace the weather!
Wrap up warm and go for a walk in the rain, or hire a golf buggy and go explore, and find a nice cafe (or come back to the Kaffeehaus next door) for a well-earned hot chocolate! Scilly Golf Carts can be found at the Porthmellon Business Park.
Just for kids
There is a softplay centre, Kings of the Castle, which is a great space for kids to play while the parents have a cuppa and a chat!
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Sabine and she can find out exactly what is going on during your visit.
Or contact the Tourist Information Centre for the latest “What’s Ons”. They run weekly from Saturday to Friday.
